Children’s Portrait: 3 Tips when preparing for your session

When preparing for a children’s portrait, you might have a few questions. Here are a few tips we like to give.

1. What is the best time for the session?
We usually recommend to schedule your photo session at a time when your child will be lively, awake, and playful. Often just after waking up from a nap is best. Meal or snack time can be a fun time for photos, so you may want to prepare some snacks for your child for the portrait session.

2. How much time should we set aside for the shoot?
At Le Studio, we offer four types of session: 30 minutes, 1 hour, 1 hour and a half, or 2 hours. Children sessions usually take more time than any other type of shoots. For babies, we would recommend a 2 hour session, as they need frequent breaks for sleep and food. Sessions with 2-3 year olds would also take between 1.5 or 2 hours to allow them time to overcome shyness and get comfortable in front of the camera. During that amount of time, we get lots of great pictures and occasions to take different types of photographs, as they run around so much.

3. What kind of clothes work best?
Remember to pick simplicity when choosing the best outfit for your child. We want everybody to be comfortable, and we want the focus to be on the child and not the clothes. Pastel colors (avoid whites) are also always a good choice. And do not hesitate to bring several pieces of clothing!
