We offer an invaluable experience to honor your pregnancy and capture that special glow that only mothers-to-be exude. To get the best of your maternity session, please read on those few notes and prepare before the shoot!
1- AT WHAT POINT IN PREGNANCY IS IT BEST TO SCHEDULE MY MATERNITY SESSION?
The ideal period is around the 7th month when the belly has reached a beautiful shape but the rest of your body is still the same. Around that time you still have a lot of energy for a photoshoot and the baby is unlikely to have made an early appearance yet. Please book your appointment early to ensure that we have a space for you.
3- IMAGINE YOUR DREAM MATERNITY PHOTOSHOOT
For a stress-free experience, it is important for you to take the time before the session to choose the styling and type of photo you want. Please review my portfolio ahead of time. Keeping in mind where the prints and enlargement will be displayed can help with the color selection.
Please go to my Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/leacartierstudio/ to review the “Maternity” and “Windows” Stories and Posts and send me all your favorites options as an Insta-message. That way, I will learn about your taste and style. I will use this thread as a mood board during the shoot. This also helps me lay out all the right props before you arrive at the shoot.
2- WHAT SHOULD I WEAR FOR MY MATERNITY SESSION?
Clothing choices can truly make or break a session. It is worth spending some time selecting your outfits. Keeping in mind where the prints and enlargement will be displayed in your home can help with the color selection of your outfit. Take a moment to look at the decor and color theme of the room where your photos will be displayed. I provide a curated wardrobe of fabrics and silks for you to choose from. Most photos on my website were created using the studio’s wide selection of beautiful and elegant props and outfits. Please refer to the portfolio at https://www.lestudionyc.com/maternity-photographer/ to see what style you like and to get inspired!
2- WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO MY PREGNANCY PHOTO SESSION?
Please do not forget to bring a seamless strapless bra (push-up style) and underwear that matches your skin tone. I will custom mold the fabric onto your body and the bras will help to fix the material as well as to create a beautiful shape. Some examples of personal items you can bring are a stretchy tube dress, an elegant robe or gown, bodysuit, stockings and if you are comfortable, lingerie or nice underwear. Accessories such as hats and jewelry are always great.
4- WHICH OUTFIT SHOULD MY PARTNER OR KID WEAR FOR THE FAMILY SHOT?
For your family portrait, we ask that you bring a few matching or harmonizing tops. For example, you and your partner can wear comfortable cashmere sweaters, t-shirts, or blouses in a similar tone. If you want to keep it simple, neutral tones such as off-white, grey, pastel colors, or a simple black generally work well. Another option is to select two complementary colors and then choose your outfits in shades of those color palettes. You can start with one statement piece that has a classic pattern – for most clients it is mom’s outfit – and then pick up clothing for the rest of the family that draws from this outfit’s color palette.
Be sure to wear something that is both comfortable and fits well. So everyone can feel good and have a lovely photoshoot! Please stay away from logos and neon colors for the photoshoot. If you wish to add more depth to your outfit, we suggest accessories such as scarves, hats, jewelry, and so on.
Please refer to the Maternity portfolio at https://www.lestudionyc.com/maternity-photographer/ for inspiration!
6- DO I NEED TO BOOK A HAIR AND MAKEUP ARTIST?
Having hair and makeup professionally done before your photoshoot can create a more sophisticated and glamorous style. While we do not provide in-house extended hair and makeup, I will be doing powder touch up, and fix your hair in place between shots. I also offer some recommendations for professional contacts on my Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/leacartierstudio/ , please see the highlight named “Beauty” and Insta-message them directly. Timing-wise, allow yourself a few hours prior to the shoot to have your hair and makeup done, at a salon or at home. If you are more inclined towards a minimal and natural styling, you’re very welcome to come as you are. Feel free to take a look at my blog post “10 Makeup Tips from an NYC Professional Photographer”.
5- IS THERE A DISCOUNT IF I PURCHASE A MATERNITY PHOTOSHOOT AND A NEWBORN PHOTOSHOOT?
Yes, if you purchase both packages upfront, you will receive a 10% discount on both packages. If you purchase a newborn session after your maternity you will receive a 10% discount on your newborn session! I am looking forward to seeing your family grow and will reward returning customers.
7- What is Artistic Retouching?
With the Artistic Retouching, I will remove or reduce any imperfections to improve the overall image, both background, and subject. This includes skin and silhouette enhancement. I remove blemishes, smooth out wrinkles, eczema, dry patches, and erase dark circles. My style retains skin texture while keeping shading and highlights natural. Furthermore, on request, I can slim double chins and extra weight. At your request, I can also whiten your teeth and improve the overall appearance of your hair. I strive to make you look your absolute best while still looking like yourself. Please refer to the before/after gallery for examples.
8- What is a Fine Art Digital Composition?
With the Fine Art Digital Composition, I will photoshop the subject into a scenic background of choice from our portfolio. Options for Maternity include flying silks and windowed silhouettes. The Fine Art Digital Composition includes Artistic Retouching as described above. Please refer to the before/after gallery for examples.
9- It’s all in the details
Your hands and your partner’s hands may show up in close up during your session. Make sure to have a basic but clean manicure for your photo session.
I am very much looking forward to our photoshoot.
